Hand Rails |
Rails are quarter timbers riven from long lengths
of timber along the grain so that all of the natural movement in
the tree is shown in the timber. These are then drawn down to a
hand-friendly width, smooth finished and oiled. The rails are fixed
to posts that have been finished to the same standard. The joints
used are a variation on mortise and tenons that hold the rails together
over the lengths required. A high standard of care is necessary
for the joinery, so often we travel to erect these rails. |
